Work Weekend at the Lake
I set my alarm every day for 6am. Now it's anyones guess on what time I'll actually get up, but usually it's about 630.
I stumble out of bed, find my robe, let the dog out, and grab a mug of coffee. I then allow myself one of my favorite guilty pleasures and that is 30 minutes of TV all by myself. It's delightful. Sometimes I look forward to it more than the coffee.
Shhh…please don’t tell my coffee.
I have done this for years and I've gone through program phases or patterns. There were the years I made my way through the soap opera “Dark Shadows” followed by “Designing Women”. Have you watched either of these vintage shows? I'm curious if I'm the only one over here watching older shows. Friday I decided to pick back up with my latest show, “The Donna Reed Show”. I love this show. It's so much fun. Highly recommend. Five out of five stars.
After my morning program on Friday I began my daily work from home, be a mom, wife, and housecleaner juggling routine while making food for the lake.
Friday mornings Emma volunteers at a local animal shelter. She has to be there ridiculously early. It’s always something her and I battle to actively not grumble about. Once I am up and around with her, despite the grogginess of the morning, I am thankful for everything that I get done. While she works, I usually work at Panera (hello, Panera subscription!) or run errands. This Friday, I ran to Target for a few things. And, I found these amazing scissors from Rifle Paper! While I can’t find you the exact ones, here are scissors in a similar print from the same company. Here’s hoping no one steals this mommas scissors…
After all of our errands and work we were able to head off into the sunset for the lake. The plan for the weekend? Meet up with some wonderful people and get cleaning! The leaves at the lake had not been taken care of in the fall by the Maintenace staff and really needed addressed before we get our boats in the water. Because after that, who has time for nonsense like that?
I’d really like to figure out a way to get TO the lake without feeling like our home explodes in order for us to get out the door. Here is what I am talking about:
Clothes everywhere, dish towels, drop cloths, linens of every kind. It’s just craziness. I know it is just because it is the opening of the season but honestly, to get to the lake it feels like I am packing for Armageddon.
Thankfully once we were able to get down the lake things were a lot better. Everything’s better at the lake, right? I had been planning on getting a lot of the food prepped at home but ended up just throwing in the towel and fixing everything there.
For dinner Friday night we all pitched in and had a taco bar, so yummy!
Saturday morning we went out to breakfast and then we all met up to do some yard work for ourselves as well as a handful of others. As they say, many hands make light work! We were able to clean up the street side and the lake side of all of our cottages as well as about six others.
Saturday afternoon we all met together and had amazing smash burgers with all of the yummy fixings, cookies, chips, so much yummy food!
The rest of the day was for visiting and making memories before we packed back up to head back home for the night. While it was sad that we were only able to be there for one night, it was so nice to get so much done and to be there with dear friends.
As we were going to bed that night Nick and Emma were talking about how good it feels to help others and be useful. That sure is the truth, isn’t it? No one sleeps better than someone who’s had a full day of work.
And so when we were back home at the Manor, tucked in and sound, we all slept very soundly and were able to look forward to the next day, Sunday, being a day of rest for sure!
