Decorating the Kitchen with an Antique Toy Cabinet

I hope you guys are having a great start to your week. This weekend I was playing with some ways to decorate and I thought I would go ahead and try to spice up my kitchen! I decided to try decorating using an antique toy kitchen. It has been such fun!

I've always had this weird place behind our stove. It's a large portion of counter that comes together as a corner behind our gas range. I always try to decorate behind it but this year I was just not feeling it this year.

Until we were at a thrift store and I found this gorgous girl for $5. A pink toy cabinet!?! It would go perfect in my vintage pink kitchen!

We tried to put it behind the stove but it was too short and too big. Nick and Cal built a platform for me out of reclaimed wood so it would maintain that old charm that new wood so often takes away from.

And I was in love.

I knew I wanted to decorate it but just couldn't quite come up with what I was envisioning. That is until I spotted on the top of my refrigerator my Grandma Jean's kitchen items. There were quite a few things my mom and aunt let me have from my grandma's estate. I am so smitten with these things : when I was a young lady Gram told me the lady down the street who gave her a big gift basket of all of her kitchen gadgets for a shower gift. She went on to describe that they had red accents because that was all the rage back then. So a lot of these items are from that gift to for my Grandma's wedding and I just love that.

I just started decorating with these things. They are things that are so close to my heart but I don't really want to use in fear of breaking or damaging them. Maybe someday, but not yet.

After I got these vintage items in place I continued on to add a fall vibe to the toy kitchen. It was so fun to try to pull items together without buying anything. That was a must for me in our current situation...not spending any extra money. I went around to shop the house.

And here is how it came out when I was finished.

I added the garland on. It's not quite Halloween colors but I love the vibe of it and it works well. We had bought it at Michael's last year from their Easter decor for Emma's room but we just couldn't make it work.

I added my Grandma Jean's recipe card box to bring the green from the garland in with the rest of it. It worked so well!

I added just a couple of fall accents, the pumpkin and the jack-o-lantern. The vintage feel of it all coming together is what I love. I also ended up adding a honey jar to lend to the yellow/orange feel without being overwhelming fall. Just a hint here and there.

I love it! It is kitschy and chippy and fun. Which are all of the things together that make me so happy! I'm curious...would you have something like this in your house?

Thank you so much for reading and sharing! Your support means the world to me and it helps me to know I'm not alone! I try to find beauty in the every day and to make my family feel special without spending a lot of money on "things". I love using just what we have around, so thanks for loving that too!

Decorating for fall is easy with these two things!
