This month we had the treat of visiting The Henry Ford Museum. Located in Dearborn, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit, this museum is one of the best in the nation. Seriously, wow.

If you've never been I highly recommend you go. There is something for everyone there. THE chair Lincoln was shot in. THE bed Washington slept in during the Revolutionary War. THE limo Kennedy rode in. THE cooloest things you've ever seen.

We have visited about half a dozen times now and each time there is something different that makes me say, "I feel so blessed we got to see/do/experience ___________ this time".

Here are the things we each said that about this time:

Dymaxion House

This round house of the future has inspired me each time I've visited, since I was a teenager visiting with my Grandma. It is an engineering marvel, and a homemaker's dream. I love the marketing they have displayed about the home too...showing you how the rounded corners help make cleaning a breeze!

Marvel Universe of Super Heroes Temporary exhibit

Cal was so excited that this was still around when we visited. This was the premiere display in the Midwest of this exhibit. Emma was not interested so she and I didn't go through but Nick and Cal raved about it. The artifacts were incredible to see and the costumes from the movies were amazing. What an incredible memory to see. There were so many original comics too that our comic loving boy was definitely inspired by. Since we've returned home I've found him creating comics and talking story lines through with his sister.

Clockworks Timepiece Exhibit

Emma LOVED the Clock exhibit. All though this exhibit has been there for all time (pun!) we had never spent much time in it. Tucked away towards the front of the museum, we always seemed to run out of time (pun!) and didn't get a chance to go through. Emma and I went through it while the guys went through Marvel and it was amazing. So many intricate clocks in all shapes and sizes. The beauty and detail of so many of them was simply incredible!

Guns

You know my nerdy hot hubby was making "welcome to the gun show" comments the whole time. Each and every visit to the museum I have two guys poring over the fire arms exhibit. And I know NOTHING about guns but it's still incredible to me to look at these historic fire arms and think about how gosh-darn heavy and inconvenient they look.

Like I said, we love different things each time we visit.

Before it's been a Pixar exhibit. Or their math exhibit. Or the time the kids got to build an entire Model-T. Or when they sat on THE very seat Rosa Parks sat in. Or the LEGO city. There are so many things that each time we leave feeling inspired.

More than that, we are encouraged to take an innovative spirit home with us. It helps us to think big thoughts in our day-to-day lives. To think of others when we look for solutions to problems, and to think of those that came before us and paved the way.

Museums should make us feel wowed. The best museums help us feel the weight of responsibility we have ouselves to spread the feeling of wow to the rest of the world. And that is precisely what The Henry Ford does.
