4 Ways to Show Love this Valentine's Day that are Simple and Free
Now is the perfect time to begin thinking of how we can share love with others this Valentine's Day. After all, love is what makes the world go round, right? I have 4 simple and free ways to show love this Valentine's Day. You could get started now and work through Valentine's.
These simple, free ways to show love are super easy and best of all, they involve things that you already have at home.
Make cards
Last Christmas our children made homemade cards. I have a very hard time letting them use glitter and admittedly we have not had enough construction paper cutting-glue squirting crafts around here like they would have in traditional school.
So this year I put them to the task of making cards. The reasoning behind it? To donate them to an assisted living facility for the residents to enjoy.
I got to thinking about the elderly in our area and felt so terrible for them. Not only do they not get to have visitors during this covid time, but now they don't get to have the carolers and the festivities that they look so forward to.
We enjoyed it so much at Christmas that we decided to start even earlier to make cards for Valentine's Day. Cards are virtually free to make. You can create with whatever you have around the house and your words. If you don't have anything to make them with, this is a cute book to use.
Happy Birthday
This is such a simple thing you can do...
Get on the Facebook each day and tell your friends happy birthday.
We all like it when people take the time to wish us well on our big day, right? Well taking the time to tell someone happy birthday. Takes practically no time do is so simple. It’s just a little step of intentionality that can make someone else’s day.
Talk to people
Speaking of being intentional I’m going to bring the house down by being a bit confrontational. I have so many friends who are living in fear right now. Like, ordering groceries from home, seeing no one, fear.
I believe that the reason we are here as Christians is to spread love. Ale tines is literally a holiday for us Jesus loving girls to spread some glittery pink love!
You know what is a great way to spread love?by talking to people! Actually spreading love and making people feel special.
To do this you will intentionally look for ways to interact with actual people.
What do I mean? Well I mean when you are needing groceries it is choosing to go to the store to get groceries instead of ordering them. It means when you go to the store you choose to go through an actual line rather than go through the self scanner. It meAnd when y our go through the line you engage the cashier in conversation...
How is your day going? I like your earrings! Find something to say to people that will draw them into conversation and make them feel special. Show. Them. Love.
This will not always be easy and it will for sure take more time (say hello to standing in line at the post office versus using the machine).
Whatever you do, go throughout your day and make a conscious effort to choose the option that gives you an option to share God's love with someone.
Cinnamon rolls
You don’t have to actually make cinnamon rolls. But I have a great example to share with you.
After Christmas I decided to make my family cinnamon rolls.
Now, Can I share a secret with you?
I hate making cinnamon rolls. Hate. There I said it. I’m not sure what it is, whether it’s the multi step process, the mess of rolling them out, the ick of getting the filling goo on my hands...whatever it is I loathe making them. Every fiber of my being does not enjoy making cinnamon rolls.
But I made them. I made them because they are my family’s all time favorite. They raved about them. The kids adored them. My husband swooned.
So here’s the thing...make the damn cinnamon rolls. Or whatever it is for your family. It isn’t about the accolades you’ll receive but rather about your family feeling loved.
I already had all of the ingredients for the treat...butter , flour, cinnamon, etc. but when I took the time to put them together was when I was able to gift love to my family.
I hope you’re seeing the common theme of these simple ways to share love this Valentine’s Day.
Sharing love isn't about buying things but is more about using what you have and putting thoughtful effort into your everyday actions. By these simple free things to show love, we could literally change the world, one thoughtful, and loving step at a time.
