Missing Milkshakes during Frugal February, Day 2
This morning was a whirlwind of activity as we had a doctor's appointment this morning followed by marriage counseling. So thankful my mother in law took Calvin to school.
On the way to the doctor Nick asked if I wanted a scooter's coffee which for a moment was so tempting… Until I remembered frugal February. I was thankful I had my Stanley cup of revitalize drink from home.
Emma surprised us yesterday with a brain injury/concussion and is home from school for the day. I took her this afternoon to the local amish grocery store to get a few grocery items that we need this month. While colby was about the same as at the regular store, mozarella was $2.99/lb and provolone was only 2.19/lb. Such good deals! Most of this will be shredded for different dishes this month and some of the provolone will be sliced for sandwiches.
I love that they have such great deals on cheese!
After the grocery store and work I headed up to pick Cal up from school.
For the past three years we've had an on going tradition… If Nick is out of town we go through a drive through after I pick the kids up from school and get whatever sweet drink the kids want… Starbucks, Dunkin’donuts, biggby, lately it's been steak and shake.
While this may sound extravagant please remember that my children only attend school on Thursdays and sometimes when you're missing someone it's nice to be able to get a treat.
This said, here we are on a Thursday… And Nick's out of town. Oh the sting.
It's hard breaking a habit that's been going on for years but that's the rub of Frugal February I guess. That is the exact reason that we are doing this.

I've been racking my brain trying to figure out what to do…I remembered I had $15 in Starbucks gift cards but with inflation that would barely get us 2 drinks and we would just be using found money not actually addressing any real problem of consumerism. Not to mention that this is only the second day of the month and what if I was faced with some real coffee emergency in the future? Oh the humanity!
So I decided to forego the trip through the drive through all together. The result?
Well, first I decided I was going to keep my big mouth shut and see if Calvin even noticed that we weren’t going out for drinks.
Alas, he asked to go to Chick-Fil-A.
I told him no, and that was that.
It was glorious! I felt bad for him and offered him ice cream when we got home. But he was ready for a nap.
I hope you’re reading this as the most anti-climactic story of your life. But the point being that sometimes you can fret about not having money for purchases and it turns out it doesn’t really matter.
For dinner tonight we had sheet pan nachos. They truly are the easiest meal and the kids love them. It’s nice for me because I can usually get a few more veggies into them by sprinkling them with tomatoes, lettuce, and onions.
For the rest of the night Emma and I have read and loafed around and Calvin has been playing video games.
It has been delightful to have a quiet night even if it is thanks to Emma not being able to go about her normal routine.
Comment with how your day has been going. I’d love to know!
Loves!
